Countless women have helped shape the evolution of dance culture. With this in mind, RCRDSHP is proud to announce a drop dedicated to immortalizing some of our favorite female artists’ contributions through The Next Format™ in music. Women of Dance hits our marketplace on Tuesday, March 8.

This drop focuses on four acclaimed artists: Crystal Waters, DJ Rap, JES, and Lena Leon. It will include artist, release, and moment cards featuring exclusive content that highlights the magnitude of their careers. Buying a pack grants you access to content like new music and behind-the-scenes footage. Not only that, but it goes a long way towards supporting these female artists in an industry not historically stacked in their favor.

Too many women to count have played pivotal roles in dance music over the years. It was a hard decision, but we narrowed this drop down to these four artists based on their accomplishments in different corners of the dance music world.

Meet the Women of Dance

It all started with house, so what better place to begin than the career of Crystal Waters? The American vocalist sang some of the genre’s biggest 1990s commercial successes including ‘Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless)’ and ‘100% Pure Love’, the latter of which remained on the Billboard Hot 100 for a whopping 48 weeks. Crystal now runs a label called IAH Records, named after her other #1 Billboard hit ‘I Am House’.

Meanwhile across the pond, DJ Rap worked until she became an artist closely associated with the drum and bass genre. Her 1999 album ‘Learning Curve’ sold over 1 million units, and she oversees two record labels: Propa Talent and Impropa Talent. Brands like Sony Playstation and Nintendo Wii have also enlisted her for music production, and she’s scored films like ‘Mission Impossible’, ‘Run Lola Run’, and ‘Enough’.

JES is a name any trance fan knows well. Songs like ‘As the Rush Comes’, ‘I Won’t Let You Fall’, ‘Imagination’, ‘Awaken’, and ‘Fall Into You’ have elevated the American artist’s career to heights seldom seen by dance music vocalists. 190 million streams, three Grammy Awards nominations, and two Billboard #1s later, her star shines as bright as ever.

Last but not least is Lena Leon, an American singer, songwriter, and vocal producer whose list of collaborators includes Tiësto, Seven Lions, Deorro, and Annabel Englund. Many of her releases have been certified platinum and reached #1 on various charts around the world. Her experience as an audio engineer has also equipped her to do the vocal production work on a number of her own singles.

Looking to the Future

Despite the undeniable contributions of female artists like those featured in this drop, women remain woefully underrepresented in the electronic music industry. The 2021 IMS Business Report notes only 4% of Google searches for DJs’ names correspond to female artists. A study by female:pressure found that even Berlin institution Berghain, which boasts the highest proportion of female DJ bookings of any major nightclub, still only billed 25.6% women in 2019.

RCRDSHP is no stranger to proposing solutions for the inequities of the music industry. In addition to providing artists a new monetization avenue through digital collectibles, for example, we chose to partner with the Flow Blockchain due to its significantly smaller carbon footprint. It is our hope that drops like Women of Dance not only bring new fan engagement opportunities to the artists featured, but inspire the next generation of female talent to create a lane for themselves as well.

A pack costs $17, which gets you four collectibles: an artist, a moment, a release, and an artifact. Start or add to your collection right now with Women of Dance.
